Kumbirai Makumbe currently takes form as a London based artist and designer who places significant effort into the speculative exploration of alternative modes of being and thinking that offers means to negate exclusionary acts and ideologies.Their work addresses the multi-dimensionality of blackness, notions of inclusion, in-betweenness, care and transcendence.

Kumbirai Makumbe currently takes form as a London based artist and designer who places significant effort into the speculative exploration of alternative modes of being and thinking that offers means to negate exclusionary acts and ideologies. A graduate of BA Design for Art Direction from London College of Communication, their work addresses the multi-dimensionality of blackness, notions of inclusion, in-betweenness, care and transcendence.

Recent exhibitions and screenings include: Going Away TV, Arebyte Gallery; POWERPLAY, Arebyte Gallery and the National Galleries Zimbabwe, London; Disembodied Behaviours, Hervisions for bitforms with New Art City, New York / Online; Data Fatigue, isthisit?, Online (2020); BBZ Alternative Graduate Show, Copeland Gallery; Assembly Point, LCC Studio, London; Four/Four x Kühle Wampe: We Might Never Reach You, Nottingham Contemporary, Nottingham; Cyber Sanctuaries, Specter.World for The Wrong Biennale, Online (2019).

Makumbe has spoken at the London Film Festival Experimenta Debate 2019 for the ICA and as part of South London Gallery’s open forum programme The Conch, she was a recipient of the Black Artist’s Grant from Daniel Arshama and Samuel D. Ross in 2020.
